Lifelong Faith Formation

The Office of Lifelong Faith Formation serves the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland in their efforts of evangelization. The staff of this office provides ongoing support and resources for pastors, parish staff, ministry volunteers and parishioners to participate fully in the life and mission of the Church. In this section, learn more about the ways the Office of Lifelong Faith Formation assists parishes in:

  • Providing children, youth, young adult, and adults with faith formation
  • Training of catechetical leaders and laity interested in deepening their faith to share it with others
  • Providing ongoing consultation and support to coordinators of Special Parish Religious Education (SPRED)
  • Offering comprehensive direction for the implementation of the Rite of Christian Initiation
  • Coordinating Baptism and Marriage preparation, and helping to promote and strengthen marriage and family life
  • Supporting the Catholic Committee on Scouting (CCS) in its efforts to use the scout program as a form of youth ministry in Maine
  • Offering a safe, comfortable, and confidential atmosphere for sharing feelings through divorce ministry
  • Easing the emotional and spiritual pain of abortion through Project Rachel
  • Encouraging parishes in following the universal call of all Christians to evangelize, that is, to explain and enhance our faith
