SANFORD---In an effort to meet the needs of an underserved population in York County, St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish in Sanford is working with the Diocese of Portland’s Office of Hispanic Ministry to provide pastoral care and faith formation opportunities to the Hispanic community living and working in the area.
“The Office of Hispanic Ministry estimates that there are as many as 3,000 Hispanics living in York County,” said Fr. Philip Tracy, pastor of St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish. “For the past several months, we have organized prayer services in Spanish, monthly meetings for the Hispanic community, and offered adult faith formation. Recently, I also blessed two local homes in Spanish. We are always looking for ways in which we can help this community grow deeper in their faith.”
In that spirit, the parish will host a Mass entirely in Spanish on Sunday, November 19, at 3:30 p.m. The Spanish Mass will be held at Holy Family Church, located on 66 North Avenue in Sanford. All are encouraged to attend.
Members of the music ministry at Sacred Heart/St. Dominic Parish in Portland will perform at the Mass. Sacred Heart/St. Dominic Parish is the home for Hispanic Ministry for the Greater Portland area, serving people from 12 Spanish-speaking countries through a variety of events like Bible study in Spanish, Mass in Spanish each Sunday, and special retreats.
