BANGOR---St. Joseph Healthcare in Bangor is pleased to announce the addition of two neurosurgeons, Dr. Joanna R. Swartzbaugh, M.D. and Dr. David W. Weitman, M.D., Ph.D., to St. Joseph Neurosurgery.
“Drs. Swartzbaugh and Weitman have been serving our community and hospital for many years as part of Northeast Neurosurgery. We’re honored and excited to have them officially join the St. Joseph family,” said Dr. William Wood, M.D., vice president for medical affairs at St. Joseph Healthcare. “Their extensive experience and expertise will allow us to better serve our patients and expand access to these important services across the communities we serve.”
Dr. Swartzbaugh earned her bachelor’s degree in physics at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. She also holds a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Virginia Medical School in Charlottesville, Virginia, and completed her residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Dr. Swartzbaugh is a diplomat with the American Board of Neurological Surgeons and, in addition to English, she speaks German.

Dr. Weitman earned his bachelor’s degree in nutritional biochemistry from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, prior to earning his Doctor of Medicine from the State University of New York in Brooklyn, New York. He completed his residency in neurological surgery at George Washington Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Weitman is also a diplomat with the American Board of Neurological Surgeons.
“I feel privileged to have provided care to thousands of people from our community over the last 20 years,” said Dr. Weitman. “I’m confident my transition to St. Joseph Healthcare will allow me to do even more for my patients and for our community.”
