PORTLAND---A special section featuring a wide range of Advent resources, materials, and events is now available on the Diocese of Portland’s website.
The Advent section (www.portlanddiocese.org/advent) highlights the four-week period leading up to Christmas, a time of preparation for the celebration of the Lord’s birth in which Christians celebrate the way the Lord comes into our lives each day. It is a time of heightened prayer, penance, and preparations.
Included in the section are prayers and reflections; a variety of Advent calendars in English and Spanish; multiple listings of events at Maine parishes, organized by the weeks of Advent; fun activities to do individually or as a family; blessings for Advent wreaths, Christmas trees, and ornaments; Mass times for holy days; and informative essays.
“Advent reminds us that we live in hope, we believe that the message of the Gospel can change the world,” said Bishop Robert P. Deeley. “We live in the conviction that the good that we do truly does make a difference. We celebrate the coming into our world of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. He comes in the darkest time of the year to be our light. His message to us is a call to live in his light, and he gives direction to our lives.”
The Advent section will be updated throughout December.
