Maine’s Presence Radio Network Officially Joins Forces with Relevant Radio®

PORTLAND---With the support of Bishop Robert P. Deeley and its board of directors, the Presence Radio Network is pleased to announce that it will join forces with Relevant Radio® and continue to offer Maine listeners inspiring and relevant programming that helps bridge the gap between faith and everyday life.

Relevant Radio® currently broadcasts on nearly 130 stations, reaching 38 states. It is also the top Catholic radio app (450,000 downloads in 192 countries). The Presence Radio Network has been broadcasting two Relevant Radio® programs, Morning Air® and The Drew Mariani Show™, since January of 2017.

The Presence Radio Network has filed with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to transfer all radio licenses to Relevant Radio®, which will assume all operating expenses and revenues moving forward. However, Maine’s only Catholic radio network will continue to be funded by the generosity of local listeners through donations and four annual pledge drives conducted by Relevant.

“We are keeping the local hour at 6 a.m. (The Holy Rosary with Bishop Deeley, Word on Fire, and Food for the Journey), but the remainder of the schedule will be what is heard coast to coast on Relevant Radio®,” said Cynthia Nickless, executive director of the Presence Radio Network who is joining the national board of directors for Relevant Radio®. “Several hours of programming each day will be hosted by priests, which is always received well by our audience. We are convinced that by joining Relevant, Catholic radio in Maine will be bigger and stronger than ever before.”

“Presence Radio is changing the lineup, but the captain remains the same: Jesus Christ,” said Fr. Francis J. Hoffman (“Fr. Rocky”), executive director of Relevant Radio®. "When Jesus sent us to the four corners of the world to preach the good news, he had in mind the work we do today. We provide programming that strengthens the family and raises heart and mind to God.”

“Catholic radio offers a unique means of bringing the saving message of Jesus to those who have not heard it, and of deepening the faith of those who have. Through new programming and this exciting partnership, more listeners will be brought to a deeper knowledge and practice of the Catholic faith,” said Bishop Deeley. “We pray for God’s grace that Relevant Radio® faithfully assists us in promoting the beauty and truth of the Gospel.”

“I see this as a natural development in the ministry of Presence Radio programming as it looks to meet the needs of the listeners,” said Fr. James Nadeau, pastor of Christ the King Parish in Skowhegan and a member of Presence Radio’s board of directors. “As I said at the most recent board meeting, those who cannot change and adapt to the new realities become extinct. Relevant Radio® programming brings the joy, hope, and love of Christ to millions!”

Many current Presence Radio shows like Morning Air®, The Patrick Madrid Show, and The Drew Mariani Show™ will continue, while new shows like Family Rosary Across America, A Closer Look™, The Joe Sikorra Show, and St. Joseph’s Workshop will now be offered. “We want to thank our listeners for their extraordinary generosity over the years, and we hope they’ll continue to support the Presence Radio, now as part of Relevant Radio®,” said Nickless.

“Of course, what is needed most are your prayers. Everything at Relevant Radio® begins with, continues, and ends with prayer, especially through the powerful intercession of our Blessed Mother and St. Joseph,” said Fr. Rocky. “Now, more than ever, it is important to have a clear, strong, Catholic voice broadcasting the good news of Jesus Christ and the Church he founded, 24 hours per day.”
