The Hands Around the Capitol Rally marking and mourning the anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion will be held in Augusta on Saturday, January 18. Organized by the Maine Right to Life Committee, the annual event will begin with a 10 a.m. Mass celebrated by Bishop Robert Deeley at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 41 Western Avenue in Augusta. The Mass will be followed by a rally in the gymnasium of St. Michael School, located next door to the church. The 11:15 a.m. rally will include remarks by Bishop Deeley and pro-life leaders from across the state. Participants will then march to the State House at 12:15 p.m. where they will join hands, encircling the building while the capitol bell is rung 47 times, once for each year since the Roe v. Wade ruling.
