"Divine Insights" in Gorham and Westbrook

November 28-30, 2021

A hit television series, Scripture, and Fr. Lou Phillips will soon come together in Gorham and Westbrook to offer “insights” into Advent and the coming Christmas season.

“Divine Insights” will be held on November 28-30 in two locations to accommodate a variety of schedules: St. Anne Church at 9:30 a.m. (299 Main Street, Gorham) and St. Hyacinth Church at 6:30 p.m. (268 Brown Street, Westbrook). There is no admission fee, and no registration is required. All are welcome, and the sessions are open to the public.

Each session will include a presentation of an episode of Insight, a weekly anthology and Catholic-themed TV series that aired in syndication from 1960 to 1985. The series presented 30-minute dramas illuminating the contemporary search for meaning, freedom, and love, with impressive casts of actors and celebrities. After the video, Fr. Phillips, pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Parish, will offer commentary, and the evenings will also include Scripture, discussion, music, and prayer. The sessions will run about 75 minutes each. The session themes are:

Sunday, November 28
Reconciliation and Forgiveness
Episode: “This Side of Eden” with Ed Asner, Carol Burnett, and Walter Matthau

Monday, November 29
God’s Providence
Episode: “The Rebirth of Packy Rowe” with Jack Klugman and Bob Newhart

Tuesday, November 30
Preparing for Christmas: Contemplating the Incarnation
Episode: “Jesus, B.C.” with William Windom, Tim Matheson, and Paula Kelley

Produced by Paulist Productions in Los Angeles, Insight won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Religious Programming and was one of the longest-running series in television history.
