Bishop Deeley to Offer Blessing at Event; National Speaker to Offer Keynote Address
PORTLAND---All Catholic women as well as women who have lost touch with the Church are invited to gather for an inspiring celebration of faith and community in Portland on Saturday, August 24.
The Scarborough chapter of Magnificat (Mary, Queen of Humility Chapter) will host the Catholic Women’s Prayer Breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon at the Fireside Inn & Suites on 81 Riverside Street in Portland. Bishop Robert P. Deeley will offer a blessing at the event. In 2017 and 2018, the prayer breakfast sold out as hundreds of women attended the events.
Magnificat, an international ministry, aims to help women become more committed to Jesus by fostering a desire to grow in holiness. The Scarborough chapter, the first in Maine, became an official chapter in November of 2016. The roots of the chapter go back eight years to a group of women who formed a prayer group with the intention of bringing Magnificat to Maine. The women approached Bishop Deeley after his arrival in the Diocese of Portland, and the chapter became a reality. By sharing a meal together, women are provided an opportunity to pray, sing, and grow together in faith. A highlight of the prayer breakfast is the testimony of an individual sharing her own story about how God has touched her life in a profound way.
Delivering this year’s keynote address is Dr. Judy Landrieu Klein, a nationally-known speaker, Catholic author, and licensed clinical pastoral counselor who draws upon theology and her own life to inspire audiences.
“I was busy raising five children and studying for a PhD in bioethics when incredible tragedy and miraculous glory simultaneously struck my life,” she said. “It happened when my late husband Bernie suffered a massive heart attack and had a near death experience—then came back from ‘the dead’ to tell me about it. His long stay in the ICU, profound conversion, and beautiful, holy death, and its impact on my own spiritual life, prompted me to write the book, Miracle Man. That opened up a new path in my life.”
She entered the national Catholic speaking circuit after Miracle Man became a bestseller. Judy’s second book, Mary's Way: The Power of Entrusting Your Child to God, was released in 2016 by Ave Maria Press. Dr. Judy has appeared on numerous national radio and television programs including EWTN’s Women of Grace, Focus Worldwide Television’s Focus, Ave Maria Radio’s Kresta in the Afternoon and Catholic Connection with Teresa Tomeo. Her popular blog, “Holy Hope,” can be found at www.memorareministries.com.
Incorporating Catholic theology into her storytelling, Dr. Judy makes the faith relevant to the challenges her audiences encounter.
“Life has taught me many lessons; lessons I try to convey through my speaking, counseling and writing ministries,” she said. “The important stuff I’ve learned has been studied in the school of suffering and committed to memory in the fields of redemption and restoration. This is the education I count as most precious because it’s what brought my heart healing and hope. This is the healing journey that I share with others.”
