Bishop Deeley to Celebrate Thanksgiving Mass in Portland; Culmination of Month-Long Food Collection for Two Food Pantries

PORTLAND---Bishop Robert P. Deeley will celebrate Thanksgiving Day Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland on Thursday, November 28, at 9 a.m. Priests of the Portland Peninsula & Island Parishes will concelebrate the Mass.

These parishes (Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Parish, Sacred Heart/St. Dominic Parish, St. Louis Parish, St. Peter Parish, all in Portland; and St. Christopher Parish on Peaks Island) have been participating in a month-long collection of non-perishable food items that will be blessed by the bishop at the Thanksgiving Day Mass, and which will be donated to support the continuing works of mercy at the Sacred Heart/St. Dominic Food Pantry and the St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen, both in Portland. The food pantry distributes close to 3,000 pounds of food each week, while the soup kitchen offers free meals to community members Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with clothing available on Fridays.

For those who would like to donate to the collection but are unable to attend the Mass on Thanksgiving, checks can be sent to the parish office: Catholic Pastoral Center at Guild Hall, 307 Congress Street, Portland, ME 04101. Please put “Thanksgiving Collection” in the memo line.
