PORTLAND---Bishop Robert P. Deeley will celebrate the annual Neophyte Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, located on 307 Congress Street in Portland, on Saturday, June 29, at 4 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
The Neophyte Mass is an opportunity for those who were baptized and fully initiated into the Catholic Church at Easter to celebrate together and to receive a blessing from the bishop as well as the support of the congregation.
“On June 29, we will come together to celebrate the gift of grace in their lives which has brought them to make this decision to become part of the communion of the Church,” said Bishop Deeley.
Dozens of new Catholics from area parishes are expected to gather at the Mass.
“The Neophyte Mass also reminds us that faith itself is not an achievement,” said the bishop. “To grow in faith is something we are all called to do. Together, we grow in our appreciation of God’s work and love in our lives, and in our appreciation of our mission to bring that love to others.”
