BANGOR---In commemoration of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception (December 8), students at All Saints School in Bangor collected hundreds of items to donate to mothers in need at the Shepherd’s Godparent home.
On Wednesday morning, the students carried the gifts into St. John Church and placed the diapers, books, baby bottles, and clothing donations at the feet of the statue of Mary.
The collected items will be delivered to Shepherd’s Godparent, a free, residential shelter in Bangor for young women who are pregnant and in crisis, including homeless women.
The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception (Saturday, December 8) commemorates the day that Mary was conceived without the stain of original sin.
It is a holy day of obligation for Catholics and is the patronal feast of the United States and the Diocese of Portland.
