Altar servers from around the state and their families are invited to the 3rd annual Altar Server Festival, which will be held Sunday, August 19 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 41 Western Avenue in Augusta.
Mass with Bishop Robert Deeley
The festival begins with Mass at 2 p.m. celebrated by Bishop Robert P. Deeley and concelebrated by area priests. With permission from their altar server coordinators, altar servers are invited to bring a server robe or cassock and surplice from their parish to wear for Mass. Altar servers will process in together and sit together during the Mass.
Altar Server Games
the games will begin at 3:30 p.m., following the Mass. Altar servers will compete in friendly competitions to test their server prowess including “Server Jeopardy,” “Sanctuary Hopscotch,” “Vesting,” “Candle Lighting Relay,” and the “Reverent Ring.” Servers should bring a change of clothes to compete in the games after Mass.
The festival concludes at 5:30 p.m. with a family barbecue featuring hamburgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers, and other treats.
The cost is $10 per family to help cover the cost of the dinner. Altar servers and their families, as well as clergy and event volunteers are asked to REGISTER.
