Obituary for Sister Theresa Lanouette, SCIM

Sister Theresa Lanouette, SCIM

Please pray for the response of the soul of Sr. Theresa Lanouette, SCIM, as well as for the consolation of her religious and natural families.  Sister bravely struggled with the disease of cancer before succumbing on Sunday, August 23, 2015. Her brave acceptance of this cross gave witness of her tremendous faith to her Sisters in community and all who came in contact with her.

Sister Theresa Lanouette, formerly known as Sister St. Lucille-de-Jesus, died at St. Joseph Convent on August 23, 2015 at the age of 89.  Theresa was born in Lawrence, MA, on February 4, 1926, the 10th child in a family of fourteen children born to Joseph Lanouette and Alice Michaud. Theresa attended St. Anne Elementary School and St. Joseph High School both in Lawrence, MA. Following her graduation, she entered the Congregation of the Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, also known as the Good Shepherd Sisters of Quebec, in August 1945, in Biddeford, ME.

After her initial religious formation, her teaching career of more than 35 years in elementary and high school education took her to St. Joseph School in Old Town and in Biddeford, Champlain School and Sacred Heart School in Van Buren, ME. She also went to St. Ann School in Lawrence and Mt Carmel School in Methuen, MA, and Holy Rosary Academy in Donelson, TN.

Sister Theresa earned her BA degree in Education from St. Joseph College in Standish, ME, and her master’s degree from Salem State College, MA, also a certificate in Special Education from the Commonwealth of MA in Lawrence, MA. Sister taught special ed. classes in Lawrence and Methuen, MA, for eight years before devoting her time and talents to teaching adults in that area.

Because of her health, Sr. Theresa was transferred to St. Joseph Convent in 1995 where she served the community as sacristan, night companion for dying sisters, receptionist and driver.

Sister is survived by one brother, Roland Lanouette from NH, and two sisters: Pauline Gagne, Salem, NH, and Doris Lambert, Shelcon, CT, along with many nieces & nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, August 25 from 6:00 to 8:00 and Wednesday, August 26, from 9:30 to 11:00 at St. Joseph Convent, 409 Pool Street, Biddeford, ME.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Convent on Wednesday, August 26, at 11:00 am.  Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Biddeford, ME.

May Sister Theresa’s soul and the soul of all the faithful departed rest in peace.  Amen
