Announcement Regarding Friday Abstinence and St. Patrick's Day 2017

In honor of St. Patrick, a secondary patron of the Diocese of Portland, and recognizing that St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, falls on a Friday of Lent this year, Bishop Robert P. Deeley is authorizing individuals who choose to eat meat (i.e., such as is found in a traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner) on that Friday to commute (that is, transfer) their abstinence from meat to another day within that same week.
